Comet Storm Detected in Nearby Solar System

Just updated the scenario to include the October 19, 2011 discovery from NASA's Spitzer spacecraft. It "has spotted a band of dust around a nearby bright star in the northern sky called Eta Corvi that strongly matches the contents of an obliterated giant comet. This dust is located close enough to Eta Corvi that Earth-like worlds could exist, suggesting a collision took place between a planet and one or more comets. The Eta Corvi system is approximately one billion years old, which researchers think is about the right age for such a hailstorm.."

What if the source of the comet storm was ISM now heading toward the Solar System?

Noctilucent clouds - a replacement for the gulf stream?

When Thermohaline Circulation is interrupted, might the thermal balance of heat and moisture be transferred via Noctilucent clouds? What might that look like? Storms of snow and ice that create glaciers within a few weeks? Science doesn't yet know, but this is great fodder for science-fiction stories!

writing a script for event ScriptFrenzy using these resources

ScriptFrenzy has started their annual writing event. You're invited!

Write a 100 page script by the end of April. Everyone has the 30 days of April to write in. No fee for entry.  Read about it at: http://scriptfrenzy.org/eng/whatisscriptfrenzy and join in the fun!

I'm writing a screenplay using these writing resources for background "world" material. The work is challenging.

Please let me know if you have any questions about this world of progressing events.

cheers!

under development

The initial scenario is described at A cascading series of events.

I'm reworking the format of this scenario to separate the physical events from the direct responses that I predict would be taken by those first responding to evidence of these events.

A sci-fi story based on this scenario could use a few companion books:
  • a laminated cookbook for foraging in the wild with just the basic cooking tools
  • a laminated gardening book for children (ideally requiring few words, so that someone illiterate or non-English speaking person that finds the material can still use it.  Book should be based on non-tilth farming, such as "The One Straw Revolution" by Masanobu Fukuoka.
  • a boat that is designed to handle the roughest flash floods, oceans and storms and affordable for the majority of people living near water.
One way to make the laminated cartoon books: Use 3 inch diameter, clear polyester tape on both sides of a long string of cartoon strips (printed on both sides).  The finished book can be folded into an accordion-style book with no bindings.  These kinds of books have immediate use in the garden and camping, and well.. just in case the events of this scenario occur...
